Cardiac Electrophysiology

ElectrophysiologyService

If you have an irregular heartbeat, you may need to see an electrophysiologist who can diagnose the source of your condition. The electrophysiologists at Odessa Medical Group perform studies to understand the nature of your arrhythmia and offer procedures to correct any problems.

At Odessa Medical Group, we offer electrophysiology treatments for conditions including:

  • Atrial Fibrillation
  • Atrial Flutter
  • Premature Ventricular Contraction
  • Supraventricular Tachycardia

Atrial Fibrillation:

Atrial fibrillation, or Afib, is a common form of arrhythmia caused by irregular electrical signals in the heart. An electrophysiologist may treat Afib with an ablation procedure. He or she will work through a thin tube known as catheter to scar the tiny portions of the heart tissue which are producing the faulty signals.

Treatment for Atrial Flutter:

In atrial flutter, also known as AFL, the upper chambers of the heart beat too fast, falling out of sync with the lower chambers of the heart. Treatments for AFL include medications to slow the heart rate and the administration of controlled shocks to reestablish heart rhythm.

Treatment for Supraventricular Tachycardia:

In supraventricular tachycardia, faulty electrical signals in the upper chambers of the heart cause an extremely rapid heartbeat. In some cases, the heartbeat becomes so fast it results in an inadequate supply of blood to the body. Treatment for SV includes everything from training you in ways to stop an episode of tachycardia, to medications, administering controlled shocks and ablation procedures to destroy the area producing the faulty electrical signals.

Premature Ventricular Contractions:

Premature ventricular contractions are disruptive heartbeats starting in the heart’s lower chambers. These extra beats can interfere with your heart’s rhythm and may cause a fluttering sensation. Our doctors can prescribe medication to help alleviate premature ventricular contractions.

Innovative Treatments and Technology

Our cardiac care team provides expert education, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitative care. From our state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization suites to innovative programs to treat common heart conditions including congestive heart failure and atrial fibrillation, we offer our patients the most up-to-date technology and treatments to help them achieve the best outcomes possible.

Cardiac Care Advancement

We also offer high quality, advanced treatment options ranging from the most complex cardiac surgeries to minimally invasive surgeries, including robotic-assisted procedures and trans-catheter approaches. Many of our programs are nationally recognized for their high quality and our specialists work collaboratively to provide integrated and coordinated care for our patients.

Aortic conditions we treat include thoracic aortic aneurysms such as ascending aortic aneurysms, aneurysms affecting the aortic arch, and aneurysms affecting the aortic root. Our teams also work with patients on the latest cardiac advancements including transcatheter aortic valve replacement, and other minimally invasive procedures designed to help reduce the risk of stroke in patients as well as treating other cardiac conditions including congestive heart failure.
